Brutalist Penthouse

The 1974 Big Three Industries building, influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright's Unity Temple, stands tall as a late project by the renowned architectural firm MacKie and Kamrath in Houston. Located west of the historic Heights neighborhood amidst warehouses and residential complexes, this four-story concrete structure was reimagined by its current owners. Our firm transformed the top floor, originally designated for executive offices, into their residence and a guest apartment with terraces, optimizing natural light and city views. The interior features distinct gallery spaces with skylights, showcasing an evolving art collection, including Eduardo Portillo's canvas-wrapped forms and Carlos Cruz-Diez's Transchromie. The furnishings blend historical context with contemporary design elements, incorporating pieces from Walter K., Tacchini, Moroso, Baxter, Mingardo, and a custom 25' CC-Tapis rug in the living area, transitioning from green to white.
